TGIF: Week in Review, Clarendon’s Newest Restaurants, & What to do this Weekend!

Holy TGIF, Batman! Despite a four day work week, Friday still took its sweet time getting here.  As such, I’m wasting no time in getting the weekend started!  First, a little recap of the week:

Flip to Fresh Party @ Zentan

Last night I stopped by Zentan Restaurant (located in the uber-chic Donovan House Hotel) to see radio personalities Tommy McFly and Kelly Collis (aka CityShopGirl) promote their new morning show on 94.7 Fresh FM! Both Tommy and Kelly were an absolute delight, but the foodie in me was most excited to see Zentan executive chef and Top Chef Masters Runner Up, Susur Lee (note horrific Blackberry picture here). Chef Lee held a fabulous demonstration; cooking up items from his new menu entitled “Susurlicious.”  The menu, which is released today, includes yummies like Watermelon and Feta Salad (my Persians will appreciate that) and Braised Beef Ravioli with Hong Kong Style XO Sauce.  Delish!

Coming to a Clarendon Near You

This week was big for Clarendon’s restaurant scene.  Cava, the Greek-inspired mezze, wine bar, and martini lounge (with locations in Capitol Hill and Rockville), was slated to open on July 5th, but hit an unexpected “snag,” causing a slight delay.  They will now be opening tomorrow (July 9th) just in time to kick off your weekend! Looks fabulous!

Rabbit Salad & Grill announced its July 28th expected opening! While the healthy girl in me is excited for a new place to get organic sandwiches and salads, I’m mainly excited about the Red Velvet cupcakes – and even more excited that Rabbit will be giving them away for free on opening day! I mean, hello – I don’t call this blog CHOCOLATE and Stilettos for nothing!

YUM! Watermelon Caprese Salad @ Rabbit

And finally this week, Clarendon Culture scooped (and confirmed) Clarendon’s newest restaurant, Lime Fresh!  Opening date is still TBD, but once it’s here, the Florida-based chain would give the only other Mexican Restaurant in the area (Mexicali Blues) some competition.  Ole!

And If You Still Need Weekend Plans…

Unleash Your Inner Artist.  Has it been a stressful week for you too? Take it out on a canvas with a paint brush in one hand and a glass of wine in the other because DC’s newest craze, ArtJamz, will be in Columbia Heights through Saturday night (check out pictures from Thursday night here).  Take the provided canvas, easel, acrylics, and art materials and paint the night away. And while you channel your inner Monet, enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and vitamin water and/or something from the onsite cash bar to ease the pain of a long week.  The best part about ArtJamz is that it’s not a class.  Hosts will help guide and encourage, but ultimately you paint whatever you want.  Get creative, friends! Register beforehand or check for upcoming events!

Dinner with a Movie.  Head over to EatBar in Arlington on Sunday Night for their weekly Cinema Series.  The restaurant provides complimentary popcorn during the movie (this weekend: The Sandlot!) and you can look forward to a totally casual dinner with some classic flicks as entertainment. See the full movie schedule here and be sure to check out their lineup for Saturday Morning Brunch and Cartoons!

Have a fabulous weekend! xo – KC
