Happy Friday! This week was rather busy – between celebrating a birthday, checking out the Nectar Skinbar opening and the Best of Washingtonian Party, and dining out at The Source, I definitely felt a little more tired than usual this morning. But no complaints – things are getting fabulous around town and I couldn’t be more excited!
From Makeup to Eyebrows to Chocolate Sun – Nectar is oh so sweet!
I can’t tell you how many times someone has asked me (or I’ve asked someone), “Do you know a REALLY GOOD eyebrow person?” It seems like such a minor thing, but the right eyebrow shape can completely change your look and finding someone to give you that look can be as challenging as doing it yourself. On Monday, I was fortunate enough to attend the Nectar Skinbar press preview party where I met Eyebrow Stylist and Makeup Artist Adrian Avila, formally of Erwin Gomez salon. Aside from Adrian’s unbelievable styling skills (he shaped my eyebrows fabulously and did my make up with Becca Cosmetics), Nectar Skinbar is definitely the place to be.
The design is totally chic, yet still very warm and inviting. The spa has some awesome, one-of-a-kind treatments while the store has an good assortment of hand-picked, high-end skin products.
If you head up to Nectar (which is located up Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown), you’ll want to book eyebrows and makeup with Adrian for sure. You’ll also want to try the Chocolate Sun Organic Sunless Tan which is basically an amazing custom spray tan that hydrates your skin and leaves a glow as a bonus. I’ve done spray tans before and they’re often kind of gross right after they’re applied. But from what I saw at Nectar – this one doesn’t feel (or smell) gross and is so good for your skin!
And be sure to check out their Garden Party tomorrow (Saturday 07/16) from 11 am – 4 pm for mini spa treatments, samples, and refreshments!

Rogue 24 to Open July 27th
On Tuesday, James Beard Foundation Award winner Chef RJ Cooper announced that his highly anticipated restaurant will be opening on July 27th. Rogue 24, which will serve a 16-course “progression” and a 24-course “journey” exclusively, is designed to make every table feel like a Chef’s Table. “For guests seeking an intimate dining experience, we’ve turned the traditional restaurant inside out and brought the kitchen to the guests,” says Chef Cooper.
What to know:
- Rogue 24 began taking reservations yesterday and is already full for opening night. Limited tables are still available for July 28th – August 1st.
- The restaurant doesn’t have a traditional bar, but will have a 14-seat salon that offers a la carte items throughout the evening.
- You can only reserve up to six people exactly one month out at 10 a.m.
Delicious at The Source
In an homage to one of my favorite blogs, Metrocurean, I decided to end this week’s post with a little “Where I’ve been and what was good” segment. Last night, Craig, my parents, and I went to The Source for (yet another) birthday dinner and it was so delicious!
After a bottle of wine and three courses prepared for us by Executive Chef Scott Drewno, we were pretty much ready to be rolled out of the restaurant. But instead of doing the nutritionally responsible thing, we ordered more food.
Craig & my parents ordered the Szechuan Filet, which they said tasted amazing, and I got the Pan Seared Sea Scallops with Coconut Peanut Sauce and Drunken Noodles (pictured below), which I highly recommend. I also happen to think that The Source is one of the best places to grab a drink – their lounge menu is delish and their cocktails are a blast!

This week, DC got an official drink! City council members voted on Thursday to make The Rickey the official drink of our nation’s capital. The drink, which is made of whisky or gin, lime juice, and club soda, was popular with Washington politicians and reporters in the late 1800’s. Check out Metrocurean’s awesome post for more!
