This Week in Food & Fun: Anniversaries, Free Treats, & New Restaurants!

It’s not Friday (if you’re just finding that out, sorry to be the one to break it to you), but with everything going on this week, I figured it was time for the weekly roundup.  So, take a break from the uber-frustrating debt ceiling talks and check out the far more exciting food, fun, and fabulous headlines from this week in Washington! xo – KC

Living La Vida Local! KstreetKate’s Kate Michael celebrated five years of her DC Online Lifestyle Magazine last night at the National Press Club.  The former Ms. DC celebrated this impressive milestone with fabulous friends from all around town.  See the party highlights on the Chocolate & Stilettos Facebook Page (and make sure you “like” C&S while you’re there)!

Always fabulous Kate Michael (second from the left) with friends.

Rabbit Opens with Free Cupcakes! The wait is over for Clarendon’s newest restaurant, Rabbit Salad & Grill, opening today! I first told you about the opening earlier this month, but have since learned that Rabbit’s menu will be the creation of Katsuya Fukushima, former Executive Chef at José Andrés Catering by Ridgewell’s.  In addition to salads, sandwiches, and dinner plates made using fresh, organic and locally available products, Rabbit will serve 12 kinds of Red Velvet Cupcakes! And to kick off opening day, Rabbit will be giving out free Red Velvet treats from 4 to 8 p.m. so make sure you stop by this afternoon! 3035 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington, VA.

Matchbox Announces New Location! Popular pizza joint Matchbox announced this week that it will be opening a new location on 14th & T Streets in 2012. Another place to enjoy awesome pizza? Bring it on!

Bourbon Steak’s Dog Days of Summer!  It’s back! One of my favorite Washington restaurants, Bourbon Steak, is bringing back their Dog Days of Summer deal for the month of August!  From the 1st through the 31st, you can get a Red Apron Butchery hotdog and a pint of locally brewed The Public, a DC Brau crisp American pale ale, for just $7.  And for the record, this is not your standard ballpark hotdog.  This smoked paprika, roasted garlic and coriander-spiced hotdog is made especially for food lovers.  YUM.

Casa Nonna Dishes Out Free Gelato! Before you head over to Rabbit for your free cupcake, stop by Italian eatery Casa Nonna for some free gelato!  Today from 1 – 2 p.m. (just in time for some post-lunch dessert), the Dupont restaurant will be scooping out free gelato to promote it’s rather adorable new Gelato Cart – which will start serving delicious flavors like Cocco Pazzo (coconut, chocolate, & almond) and Vaniglia (vanilla bean) from noon to 6 p.m. daily!
