Friday Roundup! Sherry, Rabbit, and Cupcakes, Oh My!

Welcome to Friday, friends! With a beautiful long weekend and zero chance of hurricane ahead, I thought a little extra dose of Friday Roundup was in order.  Kick back, relax, and enjoy! Happy Labor Day! xo – KC

Estadio salutes sherry all September long: To celebrate the popular Sherry Festival held every September in Jerez, Spain, contemporary Spanish restaurant, Estadio, will offer tasting flights, priced at $16 through the month of September.  The restaurant will also host a sherry seminar on Saturday, September 24th, from 2:30 – 4:00 PM. ($50, email virginia@estadio-dc.com to reserve).

Rabbit makes its mark on Clarendon: Craig and I recently tried newly opened Rabbit Salad and Grill in Clarendon and were pleasantly surprised with what seemed like a “quick meal.”  Living up to its slogan “Slow Food, Fast,” Rabbit may look like yet another prepared-to-order fast/casual chain, but the food it serves is nothing like the Paneras of the world. Developed by Chef Katsuya Fukushima (formerly of José Andrés’ThinkFoodGroup), Rabbit uses only fresh, organic, and local products to prepare their inventive, thoughtfully prepared sandwiches and enticing salads.  So, while the atmosphere may feel causal, the food is certainly not. I highly recommend the Peach & Prosciutto Salad (pictured), as well as the Vegetable Love Sandwich.  And from the grilled goodness menu, the Croque Monsieur and the Nutella & Banana looked absolutely amazing.  I also recommend capping off with a Red Velvet Cupcake sold on site.  YUM.

Labor Day Brunch Specials at Café Dupont & CAVA Mezze: With the most beautiful season in Washington on its way, sit outside Café Dupont and enjoy their $5 Mimosas, Bloody Marys, and Kir Royals.  Or enjoy the unbelievable Greek-inspired Brunch at CAVA Mezze in Clarendon or Capitol Hill with $5 Mimosas and Bloody Marys.  May I suggest their amazing French Toast!

Kid’s Cupcake Class at Wildfire: For those of you with kids and a sweet tooth,Wildfire in Tysons II is hosting a Kid’s Cupcake Class on Saturday, September 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For $20 per parent and up to two kids, kids can join as Executive Chef Eddie Ishaq teaches them the secret to baking, frosting and decorating the perfect cupcake! Eat Well, Do Good: Join Black Restaurant Group (BlackSalt Fish Market & Restaurant, Black’s Bar & Kitchen, Addie’s and Black Market), as they work to raise $200,000 to build a new state of the art kitchen at Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex to support children with diabetes. Here’s what you can do to help:

Drink and make a difference: Throughout the month of September, each of the Black Restaurant Group restaurants will serve a glass of John Anthony Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc for $12 a glass, donating proceeds to this great cause.

Party for the Cause: Get a sneak peak of the Black’s new restaurant, Pearl Dive Oyster Palace & Black Jack, at their Charity Cocktail Party on September 10th. Tickets for what promises to be an amazing preopening bash are $30 per person – available at www.eventfarm.com/blackjack, with additional tickets available at the door for $40.

Check it out: Bistrot Le Zinc: My coworker recently tried the newest modern French restaurant to hit Cleveland Park, Bistrot Le Zinc, and since he had nothing but great things to say about it, I thought why not share!?  My foodie friend called the food “well-executed, inspired and delicious” and referred to the ambiance as a “charming place, and a welcome addition to a nice restaurant corridor taking shape on Macomb.”  You heard him – try it out, folks!
