Dupont’s Favorite ‘Mediterranean Oasis’ Makes Room for More

If there is one thing I enjoy after a long day it work, it’s a cocktail paired with Mediterranean cuisine (okay if there are two things…).  Last night, Erica and I had the pleasure of heading to Dupont-adjacent 17th Street for a sneak preview, paired with cocktails and cuisine, of popular Turkish Restaurant Agora’s brand new private event space, The Solen Room.  This was my first time at Agora (which means “gathering place” in Greek), and I’m sad to say that because this place is absolutely adorable.  With its chic-yet-cozy Mediterranean charm, this self-proclaimed “Mediterranean Oasis” is the perfect spot for a first date or an anniversary.

As part of their expansion, Agora’s Solen Room (which translates to “Entertainment Room”), is now ready for private events and special occasions (like perhaps that anniversary). The space, which is as cozy as it is fabulous, fits up to 50 people for a seated dinner and 80 for a standing reception and is located on the restaurant’s second floor.  Erica and I got a chance to sample some of Lebanese born Executive Chef Ghassan Jarrouj’s Hors D’oeuvres, all of which are available as part of their private event menu.

It was going to be pretty hard to impress a Persian whose mother is an absolutely amazing cook, but Chef Chassan’s Crab Cigars (crispy phyllo roll filled with crab meat, scallions, and mint), and his Htipit Spread (Roasted Red Peppers, feta, thyme, and olive oil) were like a little piece of Mediterranean heaven.  Honestly, I never understood why we can’t have peace in the Middle East.  Seriously – with food this good, who wants to fight? But that’s a story for a different blog.

Anyway, I’m very much looking forward to the wine and raki (a Turkish liquor made from distilled grapes or plums) tastings this fall (and you should be too) – but until then, here’s your final C&S review: 2 Stilettos Way Up for this new party space.  I see many a rehearsal dinner, charity event, birthday party, and anniversary party held here.  As an added bonus, the first 20 people to book a party at Agora get 10% off their party!
