Capitol K Weekly: The Friday Roundup

I’d be remiss if I didn’t start today’s Friday Roundup without a HUGE shout-out to the Washington Nationals!  In case you haven’t heard, the Nats secured a spot in the playoffs last night for the first time since 1933.  Bring on the Natitude!

In addition to my sports teams doing well (ahem, RGIII), I decided to dedicate this Friday Roundup to a few things I’m really excited about.  Check them out – I think you’ll be excited too!  Happy Friday!

Oktoberfest: Capitol City Brewing Company is hosting its thirteenth annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest Beer Festival at The Village at Shirlington in Arlington on Saturday, October 6 from 12:00 noon – 7:00 p.m. (all beer taps close at 6:00 p.m.). There will be great food, tons of beer, live music, and fall weather.  What’s not to love?! Learn more, hereFree to attend, $25/person to taste beer.

Bottomless Brunches: Penn Quarter’s delicious, Latin-Asian inspired restaurant, Zengo, recently announced the introduction of Bottomless Brunch featuring unlimited small plates and free-flowing brunch cocktails available Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.  Enjoy an all-you-can-eat selection of ceviche and sushi, salad, dim sum and antojitos, and brunch plates along with seven distinctive brunch cocktails.  Check out the menu, here.  $35/person, $10/kids.

Fall Menus and Prolonged Rooftops:  We had a chance to check out the new fall menu served up on Masa 14’s covered rooftop earlier this week and it was delish! The newly appointed Executive Chef, Adam Goldman, has incorporated Masa 14’s signature Latin-inspired kick into some perfect dishes for fall.  New plates like Cornmeal-Crusted Oysters and Cream of Corn Soup and drinks like Autumn on 14th (Bourbon, Balsamic Syrup, Brown Sugar, Ginger Beer and Basil) and Masa Smoked Cider (Mezcal, Cinnamon-infused Whisky, mulled apple-cider and fresh lemon), can be enjoyed on Masa’s fabulous rooftop all season long.

Presidential-Worthy Restaurants:  It’s true what they say, all good things must come to an end, and that holds true for Hudson Restaurant and Lounge, who will be closing its doors with a final party on September 28th.  The good news? Owner Alan Popovsky, who also owns uber popular Lincoln, recently announced that he’ll be opening a new restaurant, Teddy & The Bully Bar, to be centered around President Theodore Roosevelt, much like Lincoln is centered around Honest Abe.  We can’t wait!

Fabulous Salon Launches:  Congrats to the swanky David Rios Salon and Spa for a great launch party last night! Georgetown’s newest salon & spa, which has an outdoor space to die for, is up and running, with a list of fabulous clients that just keeps on growing.  Frenchman David Rios, who has worked at major celebrity events to include the Cannes Film Festival (but has always dreamed of owning his own salon), is here to stay. The spa also specializes in skincare, massages, manicures and waxing.
