From time to time, you’ve heard me rant about how DC gets no love as a foodie city. This is not going to be one of those times. In fact, I am INCREDIBLY excited about what is coming to the District in just a few short weeks. If you like to cook, eat, or just watch the Food Network , keep reading because you’re about to be just as excited as I am.
The Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show, an amazing two-day event showcasing tasting and entertaining workshops from knife skills to holiday entertaining and a beer, wine and spirits pavilion that will highlight local mixologists, is coming to the Washington Convention Center November 3 – 4, 2012. With plenty of celebrity chefs, including Giada De Laurentiis, Jacques Pepin and daughter Claudine, Top Chef judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, The Chew’s Michael Symon and Carla Hall and Next Food Network Star winner “The Sandwich King” Jeff Mauro, attendees will have a chance to meet some of their favorite food stars and participate in their workshops and book signings. And for those of you who love to buy from small businesses, this show is known for its shopping, with nearly 400 food exhibitors showcasing and selling their delicious products. Last year, this two-day event generated $2 million in sales for local and small business vendors!
Last night, I was lucky enough to be invited to Cuba Libre to get a little sneak peak of what’s to come at Metro Cooking. In addition to a surprise Skype session with Jeff Mauro, who snacked on a FedEx’d Cuba Libre Sandwich while telling us about his Sandwich and Beer Pairing workshop at the show, I got to check out some fabulous swag thanks to the vendors showcasing at the show. I now have more local sauces, spices, and baked goods than I know what to do with, but I’m definitely going back for more. Check out the list of exhibitors here: http://www.metrocookingdc.com/market-expo/. It’s legit.
